Johnstone welcomes Royal College of GPs report
Alison has today welcomed the publication of a landmark report on the state of general practice in Scotland.
Compiled by RCGP Scotland, the report highlights some of the key challenges facing general practice, including workload, recruitment and health inequalities.
Health Spokesperson, and Green MSP for Lothian, Alison said: “During the Greens’ recent debate on GP recruitment and Retention, Parliament called on the Health Secretary to undertake an urgent review of GP recruitment, resources and funding. No such review has been forthcoming and today, RCGP Scotland’s report has highlighted the worsening conditions GPs are facing.
"38% of GPs say it is financially unsustainable to run a practice and this will no doubt lead to more closures, making it even harder for people to see a doctor when they need to. This simply is not good enough.
"The Scottish Government must take urgent action, starting with funding general practice properly and delivering 11% of the NHS budget to GP surgeries.”
