Greens announce candidate for West Fife Villages by-election
The Scottish Greens have announced local activist Fiona McOwan as their candidate for the upcoming West Fife and Coastal Villages by-election on November 28th.
A former chemistry teacher, Fiona is a long time Green campaigner and now provides community classes in pregnancy yoga and weekly health walks.
Speaking on her selection, McOwan said: “As someone who lives in one of our coastal villages, I know firsthand the challenges our communities are facing. Frequent reductions in bus services and the diminishing access to public services like libraries, health services and community spaces are cutting us adrift.
Having a Scottish Greens Councillor will put people and planet in the decision making at Fife Council.”
The Scottish Greens have campaigned resolutely to reopen the railway line between Dunfermline and Alloa and believe a station in West Fife would be transformational for residents.
McOwan said: “Building a passenger rail hub for residents here in West Fife would open a world of potential for investment, work and commuting availability and leisure travel. People want to move away from car use and in places where that is difficult like West Fife, a rail connection would be game changing”.
On the selection of Fiona, MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife - Mark Ruskell said: “Fiona has long been a champion for local people and rural communities. She would make a tremendous councillor focusing on the issues that matter most in our West Fife communities.”
