£55m nature fund shows value of Greens in Government
A large investment in nature recovery shows the value of entering government, the Scottish Greens have said.
The £55m Nature Restoration Fund, announced today (Saturday 6 November) by the First Minister to mark Nature day at COP26, will go to projects that restore nature and tackle the causes of biodiversity loss, and was set up following agreement with the Scottish Green Party.
Commenting, Scottish Greens environment spokesperson Mark Ruskell said: “With the need to reduce carbon and with one in nine species in Scotland under threat, tackling the nature emergency has never been more urgent.
“The new projects funded by this £55m investment will benefit communities across Scotland and help restore nature at a scale not seen for generations. The collapse in nature has been catastrophic for decades, investment needs targeted at ambitious nature networks that can help wildlife adapt to the climate change that is already here.
“This is the biggest ever award of multi-year funding for nature restoration, and shows the value of having greens in government.”
