Case for a windfall tax is unanswerable and growing every day

The case for a windfall tax is "unanswerable and growing every day" according to the Scottish Greens. This follows renewed opposition from oil and gas companies.
The Scottish Greens environment spokesperson, Mark Ruskell MSP, said:

"The case for a windfall tax is unanswerable, and is growing every day. It is no wonder that the fossil fuel lobby are so opposed to it. These companies are making obscene profits while families across the country and struggling to make ends meet."
"They say that it will impact their investment plans, but these plans were made before they were making record profits. We can't have our energy policy determined by the profit margins of polluters."
"A windfall tax would allow us to supercharge energy efficiency programmes and invest in renewable energy. It would allow us to help homeowners to decarbonise their homes and would be a vital step in raising the money that is needed to help households pay for their fuel bills."
"The Treasury must act before costs go up again. There is no time to waste. The millions of people who are being hit with skyrocketing bills can't wait, and nor can our environment."
