Crown Office must rebuild trust in justice system

The Lord Advocate must commit to rebuilding trust in Scotland’s justice system after the significant failures associated with the Rangers administration case, Scottish Greens justice spokesperson John Finnie MSP has said.

The failures associated with the case resulted in the Crown Office admitting that the prosecutions brought against the administrators were malicious, and has cost the public purse more than £20 million.

John Finnie MSP said:

“The Lord Advocate must commit to undertaking the considerable work required to restore public confidence in Scotland’s justice system. The checks and balances sighted by the Lord Advocate as reasons people can have faith in the system seem to have been completely bypassed in this appalling situation. Members of the public may understandably wonder what chance they would have of receiving justice, when such an appalling failure takes place in what was a hugely high profile matter.”
