Finnie Calls for ScotRail to Ensure Safety of Staff and Passengers
John Finnie MSP, Transport Spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, today (5 April 2018) called on ScotRail to ensure the safety of its staff and passengers is the number one priority, following reports that the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) are to strike.
The proposed action relates to a voluntary leavers scheme, which Mr Finnie raised at First Ministers Questions on 16th November 2017.
John Finnie said:
“I raised ScotRail’s voluntary leavers scheme with the Deputy First Minister in November, when he was standing in at FMQs in the First Minister’s absence. I was told that Ministers would make sure ScotRail would live up to all its obligations, regardless of any redundancies.
“The TSSA are right to highlight concerns, it is clear that ScotRail’s voluntary leavers scheme is nothing more than a cost cutting exercise. I will be raising the matter with the Scottish Government when parliament reconvenes. It is completely unacceptable that the drive to extract ever more private profit from Scotland’s railways could result in the safety of staff or passengers being compromised.”
