Finnie comments on terror threat level & use of armed officers
John Finnie MSP, Justice spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, today (24 May) welcomed comments from the First Minister that there are no plans to deploy military personnel on the streets in light of the terror threat level across the UK being raised to "critical", suggesting another attack is expected.
Police Scotland have deployed more armed officers for the "foreseeable future" after the Manchester concert attack.
A fourteen-year-old girl from Barra remains missing following Monday's suicide bombing.
John Finnie, Justice spokesperson for the Scottish Greens and MSP for the Highlands and Islands, said:
“Our thoughts remain with the families of those killed, injured and missing, and with the people of Manchester following Monday's abhorrent attack.
"It's always disappointing to see armed officers on patrol but we must accept that the decision has been made after a careful assessment of the current risk to the public.
"The First Minister's comment that this deployment does not indicate a long-term trend is welcome.
"When the current threat level reduces we must see a reduction in the use of armed officers.”
