First Minister must go further on transition funding
Responding to the First Minister’s announcement of a new £62m energy transition fund over the next 5 years, Scottish Greens Energy Spokesperson Mark Ruskell MSP said:
“I welcome the First Minister’s acknowledgement that her government must drive investment in Scotland’s energy transition, but the funding announced today amounts to a drop in the ocean compared to what is ultimately required.
“Oil and gas companies have already begun the process of sacking thousands of highly skilled workers. These workers can play a pivotal role as Scotland moves toward a renewables economy but the Scottish Government’s failure to put in place a fair plan for workers to transition means many risk being left behind.
“Scotland’s renewable energy potential is unparalleled. A Scottish Green New Deal would unlock this potential creating hundreds of thousands of good jobs and supporting communities across the country. Half measures are no longer good enough, it’s time for the government to seize the opportunity and build a fairer, greener Scotland.”
