FMQs: First Minster clear on fossil fuels expansion
Scottish Greens energy and climate spokesperson Mark Ruskell MSP today welcomed a “crystal clear” response from the First Ministers that the Tories must not seek to fast track climate busting fossil fuel projects in the north sea.
Speaking at FMQs Mr Ruskell noted the best way to slash energy bills is to replace gas with green energy.
Mark Ruskell MSP said:
“I welcome this crystal clear commitment from the First Minister that Tory attempts to fast track fossil fuel expansion, including the Jackdaw field, must be curtailed.
“Six months on from COP26 hundreds of new fossil fuel projects have been proposed globally that if realised will cause our mutually assured destruction from climate change.
“The EU already know this, that’s why they are backing renewables through a new multi-billion-pound investment. In contrast, the UK Government Minister Kwasi Kwarteng is fuelling this headlong rush by relabelling dirty gas as green in an attempt to fast-track developments like Jackdaw.
“The best way to slash energy bills is to replace gas with green energy, and that the best way to isolate Putin is to insulate homes”
