Green deal will deliver 5000 new teachers
The delivery of 5000 new teaching posts as part of the co-operation deal between the Scottish Greens and the Scottish Government will go a long way to tackling unsustainable teacher workloads, Scottish Greens Education Spokesperson Ross Greer MSP has said.
The agreement would go well beyond the SNP’s manifesto commitment of ‘3500 additional teachers and classroom assistants.’
Ross Greer MSP said:
“The commitment to an additional 5,000 teaching posts in this co-operation agreement is a real statement of intent on the part of the Scottish Greens.
“We’re made the case for some time that getting more teachers into schools permanently is key to reducing class sizes, enabling more individual support and reducing class contact time, giving teachers more time to prepare quality learning. This agreement reflects the importance Greens placed on education in our election manifesto.
“If approved by Scottish Green Party members this weekend, the co-operation agreement would also deliver a wider package of support for schools, including a £10m initiative to support low income families, plans to establish a registered profession of Additional Support Needs assistants and give young people a right to access mental health support in school.”
