GREEN MSP SEEKS ANSWERS ON ARRAN FERRY BIDS
Green MSP for the West of Scotland Ross Greer has received an answer to his questioning of the government on the results of bids to run the Arran ferry service Ardrossan has bid to continue running the service but this is under threat due to a rival offer from Troon.
In response to the question, Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf announced that an ongoing study from Peter Brett Associates is expected to report in February or March and “a decision will be announced as soon as possible thereafter”.
Reacting to the response, Ross Greer MSP renewed calls for the right decision to be made as soon as possible. “This is a difficult time for communities in Ardrossan and in Arran and it is unfair on them to be kept waiting any longer than is necessary.”
“Ardrossan has served well in hosting a ferry service to Brodick since 1834 and we all hope this will continue. The route from Ardrossan is the most direct, the quickest and the cheapest and it keeps Arran’s links with the rest of North Ayrshire. It is welcome to hear that Peel Ports have committed to future improvements if the service stays at Ardrossan.”
