Greens co-leader calls for eviction ban to be reinstated
The Scottish Government must urgently consider reinstating the eviction ban across country for as long as covid restrictions remain in place, Scottish Greens co-leader Lorna Slater MSP has said.
Speaking in response to the First Minister’s update to parliament today, Ms Slater highlighted the significant impact the pandemic has put on household budgets.
Lorna Slater said:
“The First Minister is aware just how challenging the pandemic has been on household budgets.
“Many have spent much of the last year on the furlough scheme, earning 80% of what might have been an already low wage. Others have lost their jobs completely with little hope of finding another.
“The eviction ban has been a lifeline for many of those people – but now that protection has been swept away. Many face eviction now if they can’t cover their rent, but the job prospects just aren’t there yet.
“The First Minister must give urgent consideration to reinstating the eviction ban across the whole country for as long as Covid restrictions remain in place.”
