Greens condemn cuts to welfare and housing benefit

Today Green MSP Patrick Harvie spoke out against cuts to welfare and housing following the National Day of Protest against Welfare & Housing Benefit cuts, and lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament recognising and applauding the peaceful protests which have taken place both in Scotland and throughout the UK. Both Patrick Harvie MSP and Robin Harper MSP have supported students protesting against education cuts, and Patrick Harvie has recently lodged a motion in the Parliament recognising the imbalanced burden of UK budget cuts on women. The Scottish Green MSPs remain the only MSPs offering a revenue-raising alternative to the UK Coalition's cuts agenda which has been handed on to Scotland and accepted in one way or another by every other political party in Scotland.

Student protests and the UKuncut movement have captured public imagination, and this week's protests continue that citizen-led challenge to the Tory/Liberal coalition.
