Greens Highlight Warm Homes Pledge On Climate Day

The Scottish Greens today (18 April) used Climate Day to highlight their consistent priority of energy efficient homes.

At the Stop Climate Chaos Scotland hustings, the Scottish Greens underlined the social and economic as well as environmental benefits of investing in insulated, easy-to-heat housing.

Mark Ruskell, Climate Change spokesperson for the Scottish Greens and MSP candidate for Mid Scotland and Fife, said:

“Over a third of people in Scotland are in fuel poverty. We need a bold approach to end this scandal. In the last budget SNP ministers cut funding for fuel poverty. It is clear we need a stronger Green voice to deliver a step change in investment.

“Greens have led the calls to make energy efficient housing a national infrastructure priority. We want to see all homes achieve the recommended standard - Energy Performance Certificate Band C - by 2025.

“Ensuring our homes are well insulated and glazed, and have modern heating systems has multiple benefits. It creates jobs, it saves people money and it cuts climate change emissions. Scotland can create good homes for everyone but we need a bolder Holyrood with a strong group of Greens to ensure action.”
