Greens: Nationalised Scotrail can improve deal for workers

Nationalising Scotrail can provide an opportunity to improve industrial relations on Scotland’s railways, the Scottish Greens have said.

At First Minister’s Questions, Green MSP for the North East Maggie Chapman raised the ongoing strike which has left passengers stranded every Sunday for months as Dutch firm Abellio refuses to meet demands of staff.

Maggie Chapman said: “It’s been six months since most people were able to get a train on a Sunday, while Abellio seems determined to ruin the last few months of their control of Scotrail, undermining public faith and confidence in a transport system that has to play a central part in our journey to net-zero.

“The nationalisation of Scotrail presents an opportunity to build a railway that works for all. It is clear we need a long-term partnership between the workers, passengers and the government to avoid the problems that have arisen with Abellio.”
