Greens: Vaccinations must be part of schools return
The reopening of schools must work alongside the vaccination programme to ensure teachers are safe, the Scottish Greens have said.
At First Minister’s Questions, Scottish Greens co-leader Patrick Harvie called for an assurance that vulnerable teachers do not go back to school before they are vaccinated.
This follows Green calls for better protection for teachers who are vulnerable to COVID-19.
Patrick Harvie said: “Teachers are under enormous pressure to deliver a safe return of schools, and it can’t be at the expense of their own safety. It’s clear that those who are particularly vulnerable must not be made to return to classrooms before they are vaccinated.
“Having to juggle both in-class and remote learning while also performing additional duties on test and trace will be a challenge for teachers. They must be supported to ensure that no pupils miss out on learning at this difficult time. That means ensuring that there is equitable access to laptops and broadband for those pupils still at home.”
