Greens welcome Scottish Government commitment to review greyhound racing

The Scottish Greens have welcomed the Scottish Government’s decision to incorporate greyhound racing into its review of the licensing of animals in performances.

This followed a debate led by Scottish Green MSP Mark Ruskell, who has called for an end to greyhound racing in Scotland.

Mark Ruskell MSP said:

“I am delighted that the Scottish Government has made this commitment. It is a vital step on the journey towards a full ban of this cruel sport.

"Every dog deserves to live a full and happy life. Greyhound racing is an exploitative industry that has no place in modern Scotland. Even licensed tracks put the dogs at an unacceptable risk of death or injury, and the risks on unlicensed tracks are even greater.

“I am grateful to every MSP who supported my motion and took part in today’s debate, and for all of the work that has been done by dogged and determined campaigners over the years. By working together, I hope that we can end this immoral sport for good.”
