Greer Motion Calls for Citybus Cuts To Be Reversed
Green MSP and East Dunbartonshire resident Ross Greer, has lodged a motion in the Scottish Parliament calling on Glasgow Citybus to reverse the recently implemented reduction in the Milngavie to Glasgow 15 service and drop the proposed ending of the 142 Bishopbriggs service. Mr Greer has written to Citybus to request a meeting in order to discuss the cuts.
The motion points to the disproportionate impact these service cuts will have on the elderly, young people travelling to college and university, those on the lowest incomes and in Bishopbriggs specifically, those requiring access to the GP surgery in Auchinairn, where residents have complained about the availability of buses preventing them from attending doctors’ appointments on time.
Ross Greer explained:
“Cutting the 142 service would be a real blow to many residents in Bishopbriggs, especially those needing to access to the surgery in Auchinairn. I was surprised and disappointed to hear about these changes and have asked Citybus for a meeting to discuss the impact they will have and if we can see them reversed. As a daily user of their buses, I have always felt our communities are much better served by Citybus than if other companies operating locally, so I hope they will hear us out on these very real concerns. It’s clear though that this decades-long experiment in privatising public transport has failed. We need to learn from Scotland’s best bus service, publicly-owned Lothian Buses, where the needs of communities come first.”
