Greer welcomes damning Lords report on UK Brexit approach
A report by the House of Lords EU committee calling on the UK government to “raise its game” in consulting the devolved governments has been welcomed by the Scottish Greens.
The Scottish Greens’ external affairs spokesperson, Ross Greer MSP says the UK government should be “embarrassed” when even the unelected House of Lords has called for it to respect the “high level of support in Scotland for remaining in the EU”.
Ross Greer MSP said:
“The UK government should be embarrassed when even the unelected House of Lords is critical of its refusal to ‘respect’ and ‘listen’ to the Scottish and Welsh parliaments and governments. The Conservatives have started a process they are utterly unprepared for and now they have decided to up the ante with a direct attack on devolution. Brexit cannot possibly continue while the powers of our Scottish Parliament are at risk of being snatched by a Tory government we did not vote for. They have no mandate for this.
“Green MSPs will be working with colleagues across these islands to protect jobs and workers’ rights, and now our parliaments and assemblies, from the Tories’ Hard Brexit. When even the Lords share our concerns it’s time for Theresa May to listen.”
