Greer welcomes publication of Information Sharing Bill
Ross Greer MSP, Education spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, today (20 June) welcomed publication of the Children and Young People (Information Sharing) (Scotland) Bill.
A year ago a Supreme Court judgement confirmed that providing a named person as a point of contact and support for every child and their family was ‘unquestionably benign’ and would not breach human rights but asked for clarity around information-sharing provisions.
Ross Greer MSP said:
"A single point of contact to protect and support all children is a sound principle. It's welcome that the Scottish Government have listened to the sensitivities around information-sharing and will address these through this new Bill. We are now back on track to ensuring children in Scotland are as safe and well supported as possible.
"Children and young people need to be at the centre of this, and I will encourage their voices to be heard in the coming months as the Bill goes through parliamentary scrutiny. Giving public bodies and other organisations a duty to consider if information-sharing safeguards a young person's wellbeing is a welcome development."
