Inflation fall cold comfort for years of Tory misrule and chaos
The best way to ensure a genuine recovery that works for people and communities is for the Tories to be as far away from it as possible, say the Scottish Greens.
The warning comes as the Bank of England has confirmed that inflation has fallen to 8.7%.
The Party’s economic spokesperson, Maggie Chapman MSP, said:
“Today's news will be too little too late for the pensioners who are already struggling to pay for the food in their shopping baskets. It will be cold comfort for the families who are already being stretched from all angles.
“The Tories will be popping open the champagne but it should never have been this bad in the first place. Inflation is still far higher than it is in other comparable economies, while wage increases and government support for people in crisis are far lower than they should be.
“We have endured 13 years of incompetent Tory misrule, none of which Scotland voted for.
“There has been a terrible human cost to those years, with so much potential lost. Over the last 12 months in particular, vulnerable people have been left to fend for themselves amidst a typhoon of economic chaos.
“Things could have been so much better without wave after wave of painful austerity and a disastrous Tory Brexit that has only worked for their cronies and donors.
“The best way to ensure a genuine recovery that works for people and communities is for the Tories to be as far away from it as possible.”
