Local MSP Welcomes Former School to Holyrood
Green MSP Ross Greer welcomed his former Politics teachers and a group of current pupils from his former school, Bearsden Academy on a visit to the Scottish Parliament this week. The S5 Modern Studies class from Bearsden Academy asked Ross about his work as Scotland’s youngest ever MSP, how he got involved in politics whilst still a pupil at the school and what a typical week for an MSP involves.
Ross Greer, Scottish Green MSP for the West of Scotland attended Bearsden Academy from 2006-2012 and still lives in Bearsden. He said:
“I was glad to welcome the young people and my former teachers Mrs Zaoui and Mrs Johnston to Parliament. The Modern Studies department at Bearsden Academy played a huge role in inspiring my enthusiasm for politics and as my Guidance teacher Mrs Zaoui was always unfailingly supportive so it was great to see them again. I’m glad that engaging with politics and current affairs through the Modern Studies and Politics courses is still such a popular choice at the school.
“The young people asked some brilliant questions and I hope they left with an interest to participate in politics locally and nationally. Even if they profoundly disagree with me, I hope they can see that age is no barrier to getting involved and having your say!”
