May’s EU deal unlikely to survive predicts Green MSP

Theresa May has wasted eight months of negotiation time in Brussels on a deal that is unlikely to survive says a Green MSP.

Ross Greer, the Scottish Greens’ Europe spokesperson also says any differentiated solution for Northern Ireland should also be offered to Scotland and that the deal needs further scrutiny by Holyrood politicians.

Ross Greer MSP said:

"The Tories have wasted eight months they couldn't afford battling with reality. At every step reality has won and they've been left red faced. The issue of the Irish border won't be going anywhere though. Any deal where those who have completely irreconcilable interests can all feel content is not likely to survive first contact with reality. All the DUP has achieved is turning a tangible, workable proposal into a vague fudge, lacking in transparency. For as long as a differentiated solution for Northern Ireland is on the table, which it is, so it should be for Scotland.

“Whatever has been agreed by the UK government deserves further scrutiny, not just by MPs but MSPs and ultimately the Scottish people who, after overwhelmingly voting Remain in 2016, deserve to finally have their voices heard.”
