MSP Asks Reporter to protect Elderslie land
Local Green MSP Ross Greer has called on a Scottish Government official to reject a housing developer’s appeal and protect a well-loved piece of woodland.
Developers want to build 17 houses and 8 flats on what is currently woodland on the edge of Elderslie Golf Club on Newton Avenue. After a strong community campaign against the development, Renfrewshire Council unanimously rejected the plans at committee, but the developers have now appealed this decision, which means it is passed to an official in the Scottish Government’s planning department for a final decision, known as a Reporter.
In writing to the Reporter, Ross said that: “The residents who have contacted you in recent weeks have made an excellent case that development here is not necessary, and that it will destroy a well-loved and biodiverse piece of woodland. The proposed loss of trees in this location is excessive, and will have a significant climate impact.”
Ross has also congratulated local residents on their campaign against the plans.
“Elderslie residents have done a brilliant job building the case against this development. They have clearly explained how it would be devastating for the local environment and have a negative climate impact at a time when reducing our emissions is absolutely essential. I’m backing their campaign to prevent this development and I hope the Reporter will listen carefully to our submissions.”
