MSP Calls for More Information on Cladding in Schools
Green MSP Ross Greer has asked West Dunbartonshire council to give as much information as possible on use of cladding in schools in the area, after it emerged [1] that six schools in the area used ACM cladding, a type that was used on Grenfell Tower in London.
While the Scottish Government have announced that checks are being made locally to ensure the safety of children, and it has been confirmed that the cladding in question is only in low-rise school buildings where there is not the same risk, West Dunbartonshire are yet to make a public statement leaving the situation open to rumour and misinformation. Many other local authorities, such as Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire, have moved quickly to announce which schools are affected and what the council are doing to make sure there’s nothing for local parents to worry about.
Ross Greer, Scottish Greens MSP for the West of Scotland said:
“I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about, but it’s important that the council provide as much information as possible to put minds at rest. If parents and the wider community in West Dunbartonshire aren’t told which schools are affected and what steps are being taken over the summer to ensure children are safe, there’s a real danger of rumours taking hold. The council should be able to provide absolute assurance of the safety of schools in the area and I’m sure parents would appreciate if they did.”
