MSP Calls On Councillors to End Political Games
Green MSP for the West of Scotland and East Dunbartonshire resident Ross Greer today issued a call for East Dunbartonshire Councillors to put residents and services first and end the party political game-playing that has overshadowed the council since the elections on May 4.
After much speculation and other failed nominations, the council voted for SNP minority leadership at a meeting on Tuesday. But subsequent press reports have speculated about a planned opposition coup after the General Election. The reports contend that the Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors are delaying a coup until after the election so as not to damage the chances of their parties’ candidates on June 8th.
Greer, whose region includes East Dunbartonshire, said:
“Residents contact me every day with concerns about council services and decisions. People need clarity over who is responsible for the council and need them to come up with a plan to tackle the many challenges currently facing the community. Elected politicians playing games between now and June 8th to avoid losing General Election votes is throwing the council under a party-political bus. I urge all parties to seek a lasting agreement in the best interests of residents and stick to it.”
