MSP Launches Drive-thru petition
Local Green MSP Ross Greer has launched a petition to help fight proposals for another new drive-thru on Milngavie Road, this time in ASDA’s car park.
An application was lodged earlier this year for a hot food drive-thru, widely believed to be a KFC, in the car park of ASDA Bearsden. The proposals drew a large number of objections from local residents, as well as from the Bearsden-based Green MSP.
If granted permission, this could be the third drive-thru takeaway on the road, following the existing McDonald’s and the proposed Costa at the retail park opposite Waitrose, which has also drawn local objections.
At this time, processing of the application is still ongoing and objections are still being accepted. Ross has now launched a petition in order to show the strength of local feeling against the plans.
The petition can be signed at www.greens.scot/bearsdendrivethru
Ross commented:
“Drive-thrus like this generate additional traffic, increase congestion and make our climate targets even harder to meet. This part of Milngavie Road is already highly congested, so it’s hard to think of a worse place to add the inevitable new traffic.
“I’d strongly encourage Bearsden and Milngavie residents to sign my petition and submit their own objection by emailing planning@eastdunbarton.gov.uk and quoting TP/ED/22/0419.”
