MSP Questions Clydebank Underinvestment
Green MSP Ross Greer has called on the Scottish Government to explain why only £1m has been spent on infrastructure in Clydebank since 2007.
Ministers recently launched a map showing where infrastructure funding has been spent on transport, schools, hospitals, community centres and similar schemes. The only scheme funded in Clydebank was the Clydebank Community Sports Hub, which was given a grant of £1m and is currently under construction.
Ross Greer, Green MSP for the West of Scotland commented:
“This type of Government investment is vital for working class communities like Clydebank, and for only one scheme to be funded in over a decade will leave many people believing that the town is being neglected by the Scottish Government.”
“While it’s not helpful to pit communities against each other, looking at where the money has gone around my region, it’s clear that Clydebank hasn’t been getting its fair share. With failing public transport, major problems with poverty and schools always in need of investment, there are plenty of opportunities for support, and I’d like to see more schemes in Clydebank being given investment very soon.”
