Nature fund has been a gamechanger for Scotland’s biodiversity
The Scottish Greens have hailed Scotland’s Nature Restoration Fund, which the Party says has been “a huge step forward for our iconic wildlife and nature.”
The groundbreaking fund, which was launched by Scottish Green Minister Lorna Slater MSP during the COP 26 conference in Glasgow, has already provided £20 million worth of funding for projects all over Scotland.
This morning NatureScot, which is responsible for delivering the scheme, has announced that from now on it will be accepting applications for the fund all year round.
Projects which have been funded so far include the creation of natural flood defences and enhanced woodlands and grasslands.
The Scottish Greens rural affairs spokesperson, Ariane Burgess MSP, said: “This fund has been a gamechanger for Scotland’s biodiversity. It is a huge step forward for our iconic wildlife and nature and is delivering transformative change.
“It is the largest fund of its kind that we have ever had in Scotland. I am delighted that it has funded so many fantastic projects and very proud that it has been led by a Scottish Green Minister.
“It is benefiting communities across Scotland and helping to restore nature at a scale not seen in our country for generations. This will leave a positive and flourishing natural legacy and goes right to the heart of delivering the greener and more sustainable future that is so urgently needed.
“By acting now to restore nature, protect and enhance habitats and safeguard marine life, we can secure a better future for our nature, our planet and for future generations.”
