NCS: Government must deliver on progress for carers
Responding to reports that the Scottish Government is delaying its National Care Service plans, Scottish Green MSP Gillian Mackay has urged Ministers to work with all parties to deliver progress for service users and carers.
Ms Mackay said:
"We could not support the National Care Service plan as it was proposed. The Government is right to be reconsidering the top-down reorganisation, which had already lost the support of trade unions and other key stakeholders.
“There are some positives within the Bill that I hope Ministers will still work with Parliament to enact.
“For example, giving people living in care homes the right to see and spend time with loved ones, greater support for carers to take personalised respite breaks, and greater access to advocacy and information.
“All of these changes can be made without the centralised and cumbersome system that is being proposed.
“Carers do a vital job and deserve terms and conditions that recognise that.”
