Reviving tail docking is a bizarre priority
Mark Ruskell MSP, Environment spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, today (5 Oct) expressed disappointment in Scottish Government plans to regulate rather than ban electric shock collars for dogs, and allow tail docking.
Mark said:
“It’s disappointing that the Scottish Government seems more interested in reviving illogical tail docking traditions than listening to the robust evidence from vets who want the practice to stay banned. Scotland could rightly claim the lead in the UK on many animal welfare issues but what has been announced by Scottish Ministers is a backward step.
“The Scottish Parliament must ensure that we maintain our leading stance on protection of animals, and listen to the strong public support for such protections. Given the pressing issues we face, whether in terms of climate change or land reform, it’s bizarre that the Environment Secretary thinks that undoing good animal welfare legislation is a priority.”
