Ross Greer welcome FM progressive tax pledge
Scottish Green MSP Ross Greer has welcomed the First Minister’s commitment to meet with himself and representatives from the Scottish Trade Union Congress (STUC) to discuss progressive financial and taxation reforms which could redistribute wealth more fairly.
The meeting was secured as a result of a Parliamentary Question by Ross at First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) this afternoon.
Speaking after FMQs, Ross said:
“The cost of living crisis is pushing many families to the brink, so it's essential that the richest people in our society pay their fair share towards supporting everyone else.
“With Scottish Greens in government we have already delivered the most progressive tax system anywhere in the UK, with those on the highest incomes and those buying second holiday homes paying a bit more to fund measures like the groundbreaking Scottish Child Payment and free bus travel for everyone under 22.
“I am delighted that the First Minister and I will meet with trade union representatives to talk about how we can build on Scotland’s existing progressive tax system.
"Despite the very real limitations of devolution there is more we can do to raise vital funds for public services like our NHS.
“The STUC has been at the forefront of pushing for change and I’m looking forward to us working together to ensure that we are delivering for people and planet.”
