Rwanda deportation ruling will give greenlight to Home Office racism and brutality
The High Court ruling to allow Rwanda deportation flights will give the greenlight to the worst Home Office repression and brutality, according to the Scottish Greens. This comes as the court has dismissed a challenge by human rights groups.
Scottish Greens external affairs spokesperson, Ross Greer MSP, said:
“This shocking ruling will have a devastating impact on some of the most vulnerable people. If it is upheld on appeal, it will give a greenlight to the most racist and brutal instincts of the UK Home Office.
“From dawn raids to detention in squalid conditions, successive UK governments, both Tory and Labour, have proven that they simply don’t care about the rights of refugees and migrant communities.
“The Rwanda deportation flights are an abhorrent and inhumane new low, but the foundations of Home Office repression have been in place for years.
“There is a terrible human cost to this cruelty. Desperate people are losing their lives making perilous channel crossings while the Home Secretary and her colleagues refuse to offer safe routes to claim asylum. Instead they are fixated on finding new ways to undermine the rights of those who have survived the journey here.
“We can do so much better than this. With independence, Scotland can establish a far safer, more welcoming and humane migration and asylum system, one which reflects the fairer society many of us believe this country can be.”
