Scot Gov need to intervene to secure college lecturers the fair pay they were promised
Ross Greer MSP, Education spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, today (11 May) called on the Scottish Government to intervene in the ongoing college lecturers' strike to force management to give staff the fair pay they were promised.
Lecturers began industrial action in March last year in protest at variations of up to £10,000 a year in pay at different colleges. An agreement was reached with college management but over a year later the pay deal has not been delivered, resulting in lecturers recommencing strike action in late April.
Ross Greer MSP, Education spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, who joined the picket lines when the strike action began on April 27th, said:
“College lecturers won a fair deal on their pay and conditions last year. Management agreed to this and we were all of the understanding that it would be delivered.
"Now, more than twelve months later, college management have not delivered. That’s twelve months where lecturers have been doing the work and not receiving the agreed pay.
"The Scottish Government have been hands off with this dispute so far but it has continued to escalate. I wrote to ministers some time ago, asking them to intervene and resolve the issue but it has not yet happened.
"For the sake of both staff and students, the government need to intervene immediately to deliver a resolution and secure lecturers the fair pay they were promised."
