Scotland scores well on new Pisa test
Scotland’s young people have scored well on a new assessment of ‘global competence’.
The PISA 2018 results, which showed Scottish 15-year-olds were above average for reading but remained average at science and maths, have now published the results of the new assessment.
Responding, Scottish Greens education spokesperson Ross Greer said: “The ability to evaluate information and distinguish between facts and fake news will be one of the most essential skills of the coming decades.
“With PISA results having made for generally unhappy reading in recent years, its fantastic to see Scottish students score so highly here. The exceptionally high results for empathy, a positive attitude towards immigrants and concern for the world in which we live should be seen as a sign not just that the Curriculum for Excellence is achieving one of its key objectives, active citizenship, but that Scottish society clearly values these traits highly enough to ensure they are passed on to our young people.”
