Scotland surpasses 5000 coronavirus deaths
Commenting on figures published by NRS, showing that 5,135 coronavirus deaths have been registered in Scotland, Scottish Greens health spokesperson Alison Johnstone MSP said:
“Surpassing the distressing milestone of 5000 coronavirus deaths should give us cause to reflect on how this crisis has been handled and what more can be done to reduce the death toll in the coming months. Over 5000 families are coming to terms with devastating loss at this most challenging of times, when they can’t grieve together or fully support those most affected. Government failed to adequately protect care home residents, key workers were exposed to unacceptable risks, there has been and is still an incoherent testing strategy, and the support for self-isolation is completely inadequate. It’s vital that lessons are learned from the last ten months and mistakes rectified, unfortunately it often seems that this isn’t happening.”
