SCOTTISH GREENS WELCOME LATEST INDYREF AND HOLYROOD POLLS
Patrick Harvie, Green MSP for Glasgow and Co-convener of the Scottish Greens, is welcoming two new polls showing an increase in support for independence and for the party at the next Holyrood election.
The Survation poll of 1004 Scots puts Yes at 39 per cent and No at 44. Taking out undecided voters the result narrows to 47 for Yes and 53 for No.
The same poll, asking about voting intentions for the Scottish Parliament, puts support for the Greens on 10 per cent on the regional vote, up 1.3 per cent on last month. Analysis suggests this would result in 11 MSPs, making the Scottish Greens the parliament's third largest party, one MSP ahead of the Conservatives.
It follows the Scottish Greens securing a record 8 per cent and 108,000 votes in the recent European election, coming ahead of the Lib Dems in 21 of Scotland's 32 local authority areas.
Patrick Harvie MSP said:
"These polls are welcome and strengthen our determination to put forward positive and constructive reasons for voting Yes in September and voting Green at future elections.
"As the independence debate enters the final three months, an attitude of reason and respect will be of paramount importance to engage undecided voters. We have outlined how a Yes vote opens up opportunities for better jobs and a fairer economy, and we plan to say more about equality and welfare in the coming weeks.
"Our European campaign amplified our aspirations for Scotland as a welcoming nation, with an economy that works for all. I know Greens across the country from the Highlands and Islands to the South of Scotland are getting a great response as they engage in public events and debates as well as campaigning on important local issues."
