Scottish Greens welcome WWF call ahead of Scottish Green New Deal launch
The Scottish Greens have welcomed WWF’s 12-point call for action on the climate emergency ahead of the party’s launch of an ambitious Scottish Green New Deal this week.
The environmental NGO has joined with civic and business leaders - named the Climate Emergency Response Group - to call for 12 actions from the Scottish Government to address the Climate Emergency including maximising sustainable land use, investing in zero-carbon homes and dedicating the Scottish National Investment Bank to delivering on the Climate Emergency.
The Scottish Greens will reveal plans for a visionary Green New Deal this week which will outline out how these steps and more might be achieved in Scotland.
The Scottish Parliament voted for the development of a Green New Deal in April and this week’s publication will mark the launch of that work.
Commenting, Scottish Green environment spokesperson Mark Ruskell said: “We welcome these detailed proposals from WWF and other leaders, which we will feed into the work we are doing on a Scottish Green New Deal.
“This week we will launch the project, the first instalment of a roadmap of broad and ambitious policies, incentives and investment that can realign our economy to build a more just, sustainable and prosperous Scotland.
“Along with what the WWF have called for today, our Scottish Green New Deal can provide the basis on which the Scottish Greens will enter future discussions with the Scottish Government.”
