[SGP News] GREENS CONDEMN "FORTRESS HOLYROOD"
From: greencomms@scottish.parliament.uk GREEN MSP MEDIA RELEASE For immediate release 6 September 2012 GREENS CONDEMN "FORTRESS HOLYROOD" Scottish Greens have condemned the decision by the Scottish Parliament Corporate Body to spend £6.48m on additional security screening at Holyrood. (1) Patrick Harvie MSP said: "I’m dismayed that Parliament is to spend millions of pounds on a piece of security theatre, when public services in Scotland are being cut in every community around the country. I’ve never been convinced that the Scottish Parliament should be turned into Fortress Holyrood. "We’re supposed to be an open and welcoming place, but it seems that some people would prefer that we do the same as Westminster and surround ourselves in concrete bollards and security paraphernalia."
