SNP put interests of super-rich ahead of public interest

For immediate release 27 February 2011

Greens today raised concerns about the revelation that former Rangers chairman David Murray is backing Alex Salmond, just weeks after the First Minister's chief planner gave a presentation supporting a planning application from Mr Murray, a decision described at the time as "unwise and inappropriate".

Patrick Harvie MSP said:

"Less than a fortnight after the SNP's questionable decision to accept money from Brian Souter, we again see the corrosive influence of big business on this SNP administration. Two months ago Alex Salmond's chief planner was apparently prejudging a massive planning application made by David Murray, despite a requirement on him to be neutral. Now we see the back-scratching in the other direction.

"That's the same chief planner who rammed Donald Trump's resort project through even after it had already been rejected. Of course David Murray's backing the SNP: this is an adminstration absolutely determined to put the interests of the super-rich ahead of the public interest, and to bend the rules if need be."
