Think Global Act Local: Green Candidates Announced for Dunbartonshire
The Scottish Greens have announced a team of candidates in their aim to get Dunbartonshire's first Green councillor elected on May 5.
The elections are the first since the party joined the Scottish Government at a national level, and Dunbartonshire Greens aim to build on national successes including delivering free bus travel for young people, record investment in active travel, nature recovery and recycling, and the biggest teacher recruitment drive since 2007.
Under the slogan "Think Global Act Local", the Greens aim to prioritise support for
- active travel and public transport
- warmer, more insulated homes that end reliance on fossil fuels like gas
- investment in schools
Emma Sheppard, Green candidate for Milngavie, commented:
"Green MSPs have been making great progress both nationally and locally on tacking the climate crisis, but we need people to give Green candidates their first preference vote to elect Green councillors to get to work in their local areas. It's the council who are failing us in lack of support for walking, wheeling and cycling. This needs to change."
