Tories represent “politics of shareholders, bankers and the super rich”
This morning’s budget is “the politics for shareholders, bankers and the super rich”, according to the Scottish Greens.
The Scottish Greens economic spokesperson, Maggie Chapman MSP, said:
“Kwasi Kwarteng talks about the importance of growth, but the UK government is failing on its own very limited terms. The Tories and their millionaire friends have given us runaway inflation, soaring interest rates, sky high energy bills and some of the lowest growth in the G20.
“This is one of the wealthiest societies in the world, yet hundreds of thousands of people are being plunged into poverty. We are approaching winter and, all across the country, families are being forced to choose between starving and freezing. It is the politics of shareholders, bankers and the super rich. It is shameful.
“The housing market is already sliding out of control, people are already spending more and more on loans while their disposable household income has disappeared. Time and again the Tories have proven that they cannot be trusted with our economy.
“It doesn’t need to be like this. With independence we can build a Scotland and an economy that works for people and the planet, not one that is designed to help the super rich to get even richer.”
