Vast majority of Scots have climate concerns
The vast majority of Scots believe that climate breakdown is a problem that requires urgent action, it has emerged.
According to the new Scottish Household survey, four fifths of people in Scotland’s communities have climate concerns.
The survey results show 80% of households in Scotland believe climate change is an “immediate and urgent” problem.
Commenting, Scottish Greens communities spokesperson Ariane Burgess MSP said:
“These survey results are significant because they show Scotland’s communities understand the urgency with which we have to act, even if the Conservatives and their industry backers deny it.
“In government, Scottish Greens have already secured billions to tackle Scotland’s biggest contributors to climate emissions, including record amounts for zero-carbon buildings, active travel and restoring Scotland’s nature. We have paved the way for a just transition from oil and gas with a massive expansion in renewables.
“What we need to see now is for local authorities to reflect public opinion and follow this change in direction. Despite some excellent work in some areas, there are still far too many in our councils who are intent on repeating the mistakes of the past when it comes to decisions on transport, planning and housing. That’s why it’s vital that Scots use their votes in May’s council elections to elect more Greens, so we can help tackle this immediate and urgent crisis from the heart of our communities.”
