A new rail line linking the communities of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire would help regenerate the region, allowing fast, accessible travel for residents, workers, tourists and cargo, unleashing the economic potential of people and businesses in the region.

The North East has a strong economic foundation. Peterhead is the UK’s biggest fishing port, but it’s also the largest settlement in mainland UK furthest from a railway station. Fraserburgh is one of Europe’s largest shellfish ports, but is the second largest UK settlement furthest from a railway station. All across the region there are businesses, destinations and people whose potential is restrained due to poor transport links. Several major employers have already moved as a result.

These proposals would connect 10 of Aberdeenshire’s largest towns to fast, reliable public transport. This would provide an utterly transformative system, changing the way people get into and around the region, improving the mobility of tens of thousands of people, improving conditions for businesses in the region, and helping us meet our climate goals.

Together we can make this happen. Email your council leaders and tell them to support Campaign for North East Rail and regenerate the North East with the sustainable infrastructure needed to harness the opportunities that exist here.
