Fireworks have religious and cultural significance, but concerns have been growing about the impact of firework use on our environment, and also animals and vulnerable people.

The Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Act 2022 empowers Local Authorities to designate Firework Control Zones in their area. Within these Zones, no use of fireworks would be allowed without a licence, unless the fireworks are part of a public display.

Green Councillor Dan Heap has been working to create a city-wide zone, so that our environment, animals and vulnerable people can be protected, wherever they are.

In May, the Council agreed to consider such a Zone, and is now taking suggestions.

If you are an Edinburgh resident, please fill in the form to let the Council know that you support a city-wide Zone. A sample letter is provided, but please do personalise it, if possible. For example, you may wish to give examples of pets being scared, or concerns about air pollution.
