A&E waiting times: disappointing to see progress stalling

Responding to figures published today (4 Oct) showing a drop in the number of Accident and Emergency patients being seen within four hours, Alison Johnstone MSP, Health spokesperson for the Scottish Greens, said:

“During June and July the 95 per cent target was being met so it's disappointing to see progress stalling. This will cause concern for patients and their families.

"Staff in our hospitals are under huge pressure and need more support. The warnings about GP recruitment and retention are growing ever louder, and by supporting GPs we can reduce demand for A&E. We must also ensure the social care sector is supported, so that people can be cared for at home, freeing up capacity in our hospitals."

Today's figures show that in August this year 94.8 per cent of A&E patients were seen within 4 hours. This is a drop from 95.8 per cent in July and 95.7 in June.
