Scottish Greens welcome expansion of Climate Hubs across Scotland
The Scottish Greens have welcomed the announcement that £4.3 million will be allocated to expand the Scottish Government’s Climate Action Hub programme.
The funding, which was announced by the Net Zero Secretary Michael Matheson, will allow the network to expand to around 20 communities across the country.
This follows the success of two hubs in the North East and the Highlands, which have helped to widen participation in climate action and have supported a range of projects, including in relation to local energy and flood mitigation.
The Scottish Greens climate spokesperson, Mark Ruskell MSP, said:
“The climate crisis is a global crisis, but we all have a part to play if we are to tackle it. Some of the most important solutions are local, and our communities must be at the heart of our transition to a fairer, greener future.
“I am delighted that this funding is being delivered with Scottish Greens in government, and that we are building on the fantastic locally-based climate action work that is already underway.
“Without community partners we will not be able to ensure climate action benefits those who really need it. This is what we can do when we link up Government funding and local delivery and follow a place-based approach that makes real impacts on peoples’ lives and on our climate emissions.
“The investment we are making through Climate Hubs needs to continue to drive change, expand and scale up the work of the many fantastic local organisations that are already doing invaluable work”
