Statement: Storm Babet
The ongoing storm, which has seen the first red weather warning in Scotland for several years, has led to hundreds of homes being evacuated and one death in the North East region that Ms Chapman represents.
Ms Chapman said:
"Last night was one that many will remember for a long time, but the disruption is not over and the situation is still very dangerous.
“I send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the woman who lost her life in very sad circumstances.
“We are still learning about the full impact of the storm, but the images from last night show widespread damage and flooding.
“My thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by the extreme weather, and particularly with those who have had to be evacuated at short notice.
“Weather warnings are still in place, and a lot of services and travel will continue to be disrupted. I urge everyone in the affected areas to continue to exercise extreme caution and to follow advice from local news and weather updates.
“I am very grateful to our emergency services and frontline workers. They have worked around the clock to protect our communities and residents, and many will continue to in the aftermath.”
