Tory cuts will make Budget a rallying call for independence

Dramatic cuts in public services in tomorrow’s UK Budget will illustrate just why Scotland needs independence, the Scottish Greens have said.

Finance spokesperson Ross Greer said Jeremy Hunt’s first Budget will act as a ‘rallying call’ for those awaiting next week's Supreme Court’s decision over the Scottish Government’s right to stage a referendum.

This Supreme Court has announced it will issue a decision on Scotland’s right to hold an independence referendum at 09:45 next Wednesday, 23rd November.

Scottish Greens finance spokesperson Ross Greer MSP said:

“It is utterly essential that Scotland is given the chance to choose its own future.

“When faced with the chaos, cruelty and catastrophic incompetence of a Tory government we did not vote for, independence is more urgent and vital than ever. With record inflation, soaring prices and skyrocketing bills, it is clear that Westminster is not working for Scotland's economy.

“Hunt's Autumn statement will make things even worse for millions of people, and will act as a rallying call for independence.

“All of the indicators suggest that the Chancellor is set to impose some of the most devastating public service cuts for decades, with terrible consequences for families and businesses all across the country.

"This is a fundamental question of democracy. Scotland voted for none of this and yet our communities will be made to pay the price. Perhaps more than anything else, it illustrates in the starkest terms exactly why we need the powers of a normal independent nation.”
