Greens welcome new report on underground coal gasification
Underground coal gasification “must be rejected” by the Scottish Government say the Scottish Greens after a report predicted the technology would be a “major contributor to climate change”. [1]
The report by Friends of the Earth has been labelled as a “significant intervention” by the Greens who are supporting the call for “no new public money” to be invested in the technology.
Lothian Green MSP Andy Wightman said:
“Scotland is at an important crossroads in terms of its energy future. We must now decide whether to reject unconventional fossil fuels outright and invest instead in renewable energy. This report is a very significant intervention in the debate about Underground Coal Gasification. Scottish Greens have stood with communities opposed to this technology from the start and it must now be rejected by the Scottish Government.”
